Server and Network
Services for MPI staff
After registration with IT you will receive a user account. A user account will enable you to access all internal IT resources, internet, printers, and both file and e-mail services. Upon termination of your account (e.g. leaving the institute), your account will persist for additional 2 months before it will be permanently deactivated. However if necessary, prolongation of your account can be obtained with a formless application. Keep in mind that obtaining access to our IT infrastructure and services involves complying with the IT user rules.
The guest network provides internet access for visitors as well as access to IT resources for personal devices of the employees from the institute. Print services are also available within the guest network. Laptops can connect wired or wireless. Obtaining access to the guest network requires complying with the guest network user rules.
The Max-Planck-Institute for Heart and Lung Research consists of 3 buildings which are interconnected by a proprietary 10Gbit fiber-wired network. The network is connected to the Deutsches Forschungsnetz (DFN). Client resources share a 1-Gbit connection with the network. We provide Microsoft, Mac OS and linux clients.
Outlook web access and email
We operate a Microsoft Exchange Server for email communication of our institute members. It allows easy access via Outlook or web access. Therefore, emails, calendars and tasks can be accessed independent of location.
Different printers are available for our institute members including high-throughput printers for black and white as well as color printers. We provide A3 and A4 printing, single- and double-sided.
We also provide devices for temporary use including, laptops, beamers, graphic pads, USB devices, string systems and other devices to our institute members.
For public relations we run a webserver. If necessary, it can be used for data exchange (ftp). If you have questions concerning our webserver or our website, please contact Dr. Matthias Heil (editorial office).
The Max-Planck-Institute for Heart and Lung Research trains highly motivated people on information technology with a focus on systems integration. We support our trainees by additional add-on qualifications. Internship positions are currently available. If you are interested, please feel free to contact Dr. Mario Looso.
