Zebrafish is an excellent model organism for studying cardiac development because they are transparent, which allows us to visualize the heart in real time. Additionally, zebrafish embryos are not completely dependent on a functional cardiovascular system for their development, which makes it possible to study the effects of mutations on cardiac development without causing lethality. The zebrafish heart is two-chambered, consisting of an atrium and a ventricle. I will explore the role of endocardial cells in valve development and trabeculation at the later stages of development. Moreover I am also interested in observing the knockout effects of spp1 gene in valve development.
