Function of non-coding RNAs in the cardiovascular system

Scientific focus

The progress in annotation of the mammalian genome has identified non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) to be an important class of molecules. The research of our group focuses on a subclass of ncRNAs, the miRNA molecules, and we are specifically interested to understand the molecular functions of miRNAs in the cardiovascular system (see Boettger et al., 2009, Boettger & Braun 2012, Wystub et al., 2013, Schweisgut et al., 2017 and Wüst et al., 2018) Some of our findings regarding the miRNA function in the cardiovascular system are summarized below.

In addition to analysis of small non-coding RNAs we currently expand our work to physiological functions and molecular mechanisms of long non-coding RNAs in the cardiovascular system and skeletal muscle.
