The Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research (Bad Nauheim, Germany) invites applications for Research Group Leaders (m/f/d) - Cardiopulmonary Institute (CPI), Bad Nauheim, Frankfurt, Gießen.

The Cardiopulmonary Institute (CPI) is a joint research institute of the Goethe University Frankfurt, the Justus Liebig University Giessen and the Max Planck Society, supported by the German Cluster of Excellence Initiative.

The CPI strives to make groundbreaking contributions to cardiopulmonary science with the long-term goal of reducing morbidity and mortality in cardiopulmonary diseases. Basic research in the CPI is curiosity-driven with a strong focus on gene regulation, nuclear function and cell signaling ranging from the structural and molecular level to functional genomics and systems approaches. Researchers are supported by state-of-the-art core facilities which offer services in next generation sequencing, proteomics, bioinformatics, cytometry, microscopy, and small animal imaging.

We seek outstanding, interactive candidates with a strong publication record and an innovative research program in any area of cellular and molecular organ biology including:

  • tissue morphogenesis, remodeling, repair and regeneration
  • cellular plasticity and heterogeneity in tissue homeostasis and disease
  • surveillance mechanisms and quality control processes
  • inter-organ communication

Previous experience in cardio-pulmonary research is not required but we would appreciate the willingness of a newly appointed group leader to address questions relevant for cardio-pulmonary research in the future.

Positions are initially offered for a period of 6 years and can be extended following positive evaluation. Group leaders are offered an attractive package including an annual budget of 250.000 EUR, sufficient to fund a postdoc, a PhD student, a technician and consumables. Additional funds are available from the competitive internal CPI funding scheme and by participation in local and regional research networks.

The groups will be located at the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research in Bad Nauheim and will have full access to all facilities available at the Max Planck Institute and the CPI.

The Max Planck Society is committed to increase the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals. Furthermore, The Max Planck Society strives for gender and diversity equality. We welcome applications from all backgrounds.

We especially welcome dual career applicants.
